Ancestral Terror

22. Some time in June 2021

Beautiful pussy cat

Ooh! There’s a leopard in the tree!

If I don’t move,

It might not see me.

*

Oh! There’s a leopard!

It jumped silently from the ground

And stole softly up the branches

While we were arguing about fruit

And the alpha male’s terrible breath

And other important stuff.

*

There’s a leopard, a leopard!

With big fangs and soft fur.

*

What do I do? What do I do?

Ooh! There’s a leopard, a leopard!

My son’s jumped to the next tree.

My daughter’s swung away

Along with my cousin.

*

Oh! There’s a leopard, a leopard!

It’s getting really near,

I’m trembling with fear.

What do I do? What do I do?

*

If I don’t move,

It might not see me.

If I don’t move, it might not…

***

This is exactly how most modern humans are reacting to Global Heating at the moment. Freezing in the hope that the predator won’t notice us.
