Bingeing on Newspapers

I am addicted to newspapers and journals.

Respectable ones of course.

Never your Suns and Daily Fails

Which are toilet papers — only they’d block the bog.

Proper newspapers with proper articles

And celebs only under the figleaf of Arts or Sport;

Ones with actual news or as near as we can get

In this age of Twitter and Facebook and Instagram.

I read the Guardian online (of course)

And the Independent because it’s there.

Bill buys it for me along with New Scientist.

I feel that there must be a nugget of useful fact

Or advice; that it’s worth paging through the whole thing

(except for the Sport section of course)

To find something. Usually I don’t.

I have no idea why I read them

With such intensity, such respect.

***

Habit? Coffee? Thanks.

I've been a published author since the age of 18, back when dinosaurs roamed. I write books, poems (patriciafinney2.substack.com) and anything else I feel like.
