Bravo, Umair! You've taken all the weirdness and the fascism and made it make sense. Now we need some solutions.

The crucial point is that the loonies in every age are ALWAYS heavily outnumbered by the ordinary people who know they're talking bollox but are too polite to point it out. Sometimes the loonies win - as with the Protestant Reformation which is a textbook account of how a very small number of implacable men (Luther, Calvin, Zwingli etc) completely upended religion and their entire societies. They set off a 30 year war in Germany, 20 years in France and about fifty years after everybody else, in England as well.

You could argue that they were "right but repulsive" - though Protestantism is very different today from what it was in the 16th and 17th centuries. But we're still recovering from that Apocalypse - they were the first since the Iconoclasts of Byzantium to show the power of an ideology that glories in death and destruction.

If only the ordinary kindly majority could magically acquire some of the energy, rhetorical powers and sheer stupid determination of the lunatics to oppose them and, ideally, destroy them.
