Dear Coronavirus

Everybody hates you, and it’s not fair!

You’re only a little self-replicating dot

With spikes to get into our cells

And RNA you want copied.

Why are we so horrible to you?

We are enormous scary universes

Full of nasty poisons,

Full of dangerous predators

Like white blood cells.

You’re only trying to get along

And get copied.

You’re trying to shift your shape

So we’ll leave you alone.

When you enter a new universe

You’re exploring, just like us.

When you rip into cells to take them over

And copy yourself millions of times

It’s manifest destiny.

Now why don’t you become

A nice friendly coronavirus

And just give us a cold.

Pretty soon Omicron and all its mighty predecessors will be lost in the mists of time and forgetting. Everybody forgot the Spanish Flu as well, though it killed 50 million people.
