Dear Upset Male

You’re right about the need to switch to nuclear power — did you hear that the anti-nuclear movement was paid for by the fossil fuel companies to kill the competition?

You’re embarrassingly wrong about everything else. What if she’s wrong and we do as she says?

As the meme says, if she’s wrong and we do as she says, we’ll have cleaned up the planet and broken the grip of fossil fuel for nothing.

If she’s right and we don’t do as she says, the planet will be trashed, temperatures will soar and our civilization will probably fall. Humans might even go extinct.

And you, in your panic at the perceived threat to your comfort, want to take the second option?

Economics is to blame for the state of the earth: our primary secular religion cannot price things like air, clean water, extractable minerals, forests, oceans and so deems them “free.”

This leads to an inevitable scramble for the common goods which have value but are regarded as free, until they’re all gone.

Economics has largely caused the trashing of the planet in the last 50 years.

Regards.
