Excellent article, Umair! You've shown me the thing that's been hidden - the silence of the new generation, their terrible passivity. I've felt for a long time that something is wrong, something is missing, but I could never quite grab onto what it was.

For young people are not just rendered passive and paralysed. They're also profoundly lonely. There's very little conversation now: people look at their phones, they don't look at the people around them, they don't interact.

And so, deep in their primate brain, they know they don't have a group behind them, a team, however you want to put it. There's nobody behind them, or only all the fake people - the Influencers, the Incels - and they know none of them will fight for them.

"Tech... has pacified an entire generation." Yes. Exactly.

It's a brilliant achievement by parasitic capitalism, just brilliant!
