First Eros is the wrong Greek word to use for the kind of love you're talking about. Eros means sexual love. I think you may mean Agape which means brotherly love or Philia - love between equals.

Second, the tragic state of the relationship between humans and the rest of the world is indeed take take take - but this is comparatively recent. Really it's only since farming fell in love with chemicals and machines that it's all gone so badly - since the 1950s in other words.

Third, to this day there are traditional cultures that give back to the natural world. Maybe not enough and certainly not at scale but humans aren't fated destroy the natural world. They do it by choice. Would you be willing to live a simpler life, to save the biosphere? The resounding answer from the USA is "Hell no!"

Fourth, the Lady Earth is two billion years old and very tough. She will survive but we won't, Do we deserve to survive? Hell no.

Fifth can we change enough to save the natural world from ourselves? Of course we can, we're terrifically adaptable. Will we do it?

Dunno. Doesn't look like it at the moment, but I'm hoping to be very surprised one day soon.
