Five hundred and thirty-two jobs

There’s a place in the UK called Whitehaven

That’s known for not very much

Where they want to dig a new coalmine

For coking coal and such.

The mine will be great, says the mayor,

Wi’ jobs that real men do.

That’s right, there’ll be jobs, says the mayor,

Five hundred and thirty-two.

*

Our mine’ll be massive, says the mayor,

If you knew the pride I feel,

Each year 2.8 million tonnes of coal

For coking to make good steel.

And ye know the best thing about it,

Our mine is one of a few.

It’ll be environmentally sound

And Carbon Neutral too!

*

There are dirty southerners moaning

That use the coal we should not!

420 million tonnes CO2

In fifty years — so what?

They’re forgetting the matter of jobs

And the way we northerners grew.
