This photo is at the back of my house. That flat bit is something I pretentiously call the patio and you can see that I don’t use it very much because… I don’t like the rain. And I have tried growing things in pots with not much success. I grew some tulips a year or two ago, in pots: the picture on the packet said they were black tulips (actually very dark purple). However what came up was pale mauve and not nearly as dramatic as the black tulips. So I was a bit disappointed. At least something came up — it normally doesn’t.
At the moment I’ve got a tiny wild cherry tree growing in a pot and as soon as it stops raining, I’ll plant my tiny fig tree. I need to cut back the huge bush with pink flowers and also the hedge which is getting ridiculous. I need to clear out all the dead brambles and I’m looking for someone who’ll do it for me, in fact, in exchange for money — such a good concept.
The tray fastened to the wall is where I occasionally feed the herring gull pair on the opposite roof — although I haven’t seen them recently and I hope they’re ok. We’ve come to an arrangement: if I see a gull on the roof of next-door’s garage, I put cat food in the bowl on…
