Good article, but you ignore a very important fact.
Deep down, in the roots of things, there's a reason why Republicans can keep saying no and making it stick.
Obviously they're in the pay of Koch and the fossil fuel corps, but they also know that decent people are frightened of them. With reason: they're owned by people who have deep pockets, and are ruthless.
Decent people, alas, still think that by staying still and doing nothing, the predators will leave them alone.
Well, maybe. But more likely not. First they came for the Jews etc...
Decent people are peaceful and try to be kind. Decent people obey the laws as they are or at worst try to work around them if they've been corrupted.
Decent people are wrong.
Deep in the roots of all politics is violence, the power of the State to imprison, injure you or kill you. Republicans are steadily taking over that power and by 2024 they'll have succeeded. They know this and they laugh at all the decent people, arguing, persuading, wringing their hands, doing absolutely nothing.
As a general rule, there are a lot more decent people than fascists - even in Nazi Germany that was true.
If the decent people unite and say, "We've had enough. We have to stop this now!" and take speedy and violent action to do it, there's a chance that America will not become a fascist tyranny. Otherwise there's no chance.
This is a very dangerous time for democracy - which is fragile and has lost before.
