Grandmother’s Magazines

I love looking through grandma’s magazines.

The colours are faded and dusty now;

But the images are astonishing.

For a start, they don’t move.

I know?! How weird is that?

Strange-looking birds that used to fly around,

Quite freely in the air.

(her magazines are about Nature.

Remember Nature?)

Usually you can’t look at images like that,

The AIs blur them out.

If we go outside we have to wear our helmets

Because some of what we see

Might make us sad.

Yes, the extinct birds and mammals gone forever,

The extinct trees and bushes.

The ugliness of towns and their endless estates.

That’s what the teachers say.

They wear their helmets too.

We go to the playground and run around chasing Pikachu

And Harry Potter and Darth Vader.

We come back and watch our tablets.
