Great article, Umair. God knows, I hated the Trots and Marxists at my school and in my college at University. They were why I was so right wing in my teens. Those kinds of student politics were successful in war — for Russia the First World War; for China the Second World War. But you can’t get people to vote for it in the end.

We need to collect data and understand exactly where it went wrong — I think Brexit had more effect than you think, especially Corbyn’s shillyshallying over it. I think Labour would be well-advised to go into the constituencies they lost and ask humbly why. Invite some grown ups, why not?

Corbyn has to go immediately, not after he’s controlled the leadership election. We need a completely new left wing politics which no longer harks back to 19th century dinosaurs like Marx. I used to be right wing, now I’m left wing. My student politics were all the right wing kind, but I think that’s a great prepartion for today.
