Grumpy Trousers

I walk every morning while it’s quiet.

It’s still dark sometimes, if I get up early enough.

Sunrise is at 7.16 at the moment.

Yes, the world is getting darker.

I’m often grumpy in the morning

And walking cheers me up. I have a little litany

Of affirmations that I’ve been saying for years now,

And some have come true.

I usually walk down to the tiny beach

And paddle or swim in the cold water.

Not today. I don’t want to.

I normally walk barefoot. Nah, not today.

I’m tired and grumpy despite waking late

And taking ages to get going.

My cough is back, my gunk is yellow.

Should I go and get coffee?

Don’t want to.

I just want to sit here

And grumble to myself

And read or sleep.
