I campaigned to go into the Common Market in the 70s, before I was old enough to vote. I voted to stay in the EU in 2016. I'll be voting to go back into the Common Market as soon as we get that new referendum, or the new general election on the subject. I said to everyone I met that leaving the EU would be a disaster and got told off for being a Remoaner. There are fewer comments like that now it is a disaster. The ground is shifting finally though people still can't believe that Boris lied to them all because they still like him.
I think 5% loss to GDP is a better guess than 10%. What's happening to the NHS is more about systemic problems over decades and of course the Tory "austerity" of the last 12 years. I wouldn't call it "Austerity." I'd call it what it is: Impoverishment. The Tories are terrified of inflation because it erodes their trust funds. They somehow picked up the belief that if they keep Public Sector pay increases below 2%, then inflation will stay below 2% as well. They're still clinging to that, despite de facto inflation being around 11-15%. Hence the strikes.
And of course they're ignoring the climate crisis/global heating because they're too busy subsidising the fossil fuel firms and doling out licences for oil and gas exploitation in the North Sea.
The only thing the Sunak can think of is suppressing trades union and selling off what's left of the NHS to the highest bidder. And he doesn't even need the money - he's got 730 million quid from his wife.
As with all the mental pygmies who've ruled over us for the last 12 years, it's not ideology that's the problem. It's obstinate stupidity.
GENERAL ELECTION NOW!
