I think we should try a new method of cooling off civil wars.

1. Allow all the women and children out that are willing to leave, and house and feed them decently.

2. Once all the women have left, close the borders of the country. Allow nothing in or out, especially ammunition.

3. Let the boys play their boys' games until they're clubbing each other with rocket launchers and Kalashnikovs.

4. If anyone emerges as a winner for more than a few months, do a deal with him.

5. That deal has to include decent treatment for women and children.

6. For women, going back is voluntary and they can leave at any time.

A country's civilization can be measured by its treatment of women and the Taliban are utter barbarians by that measure or any other.
