Little Goat Goddess, what did you see?

“In Lokhari village I saw friendly people,

Bringing Me gifts, asking for favours and luck.

For hundreds of years, they had kept Me company,

Cleaned Me of moss, planted flowers and herbs.

I was happy there, in my stone home, giving luck.”

Little Goat Goddess, what happened next?

“Men in a roaring cart arrived in the night.

They chipped Me from my base, wrapped Me in sacking,

Put Me on the cart which had no ox, just roaring.

They put Me in a metal box packed tight together

With others of my kind, silent in shock.

Where were our friends, our families, gifts and flowers?

I gave bad luck to the men who had taken Me.

*

“We rocked and bounced around for a long time,

The air was hung with salt. Many of us left

Our statues for ever, returned again to the Brahman.

I stayed. I’m a Goat Goddess. I was curious.
