My Rewilded Garden Part II

My photo. Deeply buried in the flowers is a composter.

I have a tiny meadow at the back too.

And two plastic boxes full of rainwater

And green scunge, accidental ponds.

An echium growing a monstrous spike

Of purple flowers, my personal triffid.

There’s a slow motion wrestling match

Of climbing roses, brambles and a pink-flowered thing

Around the compost bin.

I have lots of insects that ungratefully

Wander into the house and die.

Every day I rescue at least three bumblebees.

My potential patio is currently covered

In nasty sharp stones with old carpet over it

And defiant foxgloves, toadflax, fern lumps.

I want a patio with flagstones to do yoga

And karate katas on and possibly, once a year,

Eat al fresco, the middle-class dream.

Nobody wants the job of making me a patio

Because it’s too small.

I want to plant raspberry canes and redcurrants
