Rishi and the Carbon Monster
Rishi had heard about the Carbon Monster. It was huge and getting bigger all the time, though it was invisible. It was making the whole world hotter, it was making the storms bigger and stronger, it was causing droughts and crop failures, it was causing floods and it was causing the glaciers to melt.
“Phooey,” said Rishi, “I don’t believe that all that trouble can be caused by one Carbon Monster. In fact I don’t believe there is such a thing as a Carbon Monster. It’s just weather, isn’t it?”
A lot of scientists got together and started lecturing Rishi about how the Carbon Monster worked and why it was a Bad Thing, but Rishi didn’t listen. What the scientists said was too boring and used words that were too long and also had too many numbers in what they said. Climate activists did too and were even more boring and irrelevant.
Poor Little Rishi! He couldn’t be expected to pay attention to such dull and cash-poor people.
Also, his father-in-law had told him that the Carbon Monster didn’t matter and wasn’t dangerous so it was perfectly all right to invest lots of money in Fossil Fuel Companies and also Russia. Rishi thought he had better listen to his father-in-law because his father-in-law was incredibly rich and held his wife’s purse strings.
