The Ebb and Flow of Pens

Patricia Finney

204.

Where have all my pens gone?

Simple cheap yellow biros –

I buy you in tens

And yet I never have

Any pens.

I put them in a plastic box

And they migrate. Who knows

Where they go?

Except I know

I never have any pens.

It’s all very queer.

Their shy yellow bodies –

Not in my bag, not on my desk.

The might as well be socks

For the way they disappear.
