Walking around, feeling alright

Yes, I am. I’m walking around, feeling alright.

My sore right arm is at last getting better

Thanks to physio.

My back is great, not hurting, getting flexible,

Doing what a back should.

The toes on my right foot seem at last

To be ready to give up my big toe

Riding on the next toe, and the next toe

(Freed from the permanent burden

Of the big toe) is getting less scrunched

And straighter. It’s taken four years

Of walking barefoot on dry mornings

But I think we’re nearly there.

Even though I’m over sixty

(and will be for the rest of my life,

However short or long it lasts)

My body is still willing to change;

To grow new neurons very slowly,

To shift bones into new positions.

All I need now is music and dancing.
